EDUCATION COSTS

The cost of college education just keeps rising.

And the national outstanding student debt (and this is really outstanding) is at more than $1.2 trillion.

College is becoming too expensive for the average American family to afford. On top of that, jobs are becoming harder and harder to find and graduates struggle to pay off their debt.

What do the candidates say?

DONALD TRUMP
"These student loans are probably one of the only things that the government shouldn't make money from and yet it does."
"Nothing (is) more important than higher education and education in general."

HILLARY CLINTON
"Ensure no student has to borrow to pay for tuition, books, or fees to attend a four-year public college in their state. Enable Americans with existing student loan debt to refinance at current rates. Hold colleges and universities accountable for controlling costs and making tuition affordable."
"We need to make a quality education affordable and available to everyone willing to work for it, without saddling them with decades of debt."

TED CRUZ
"Economic growth is critical to young people, because if we want this generation to be able to pay off their loans and develop the skills to live the American dream, we've got to return to an environment where small businesses are growing and flourishing, and creating jobs and opportunities,"

BERNIE SANDERS
"Make tuition free at public colleges and universities...stop the federal government from making a profit on student loans...substantially cut student loan interest rates...allow Americans to refinance student loan's at today's interest rates...allow students to use need-based financial aid and work-study programs to make college debt-free."

JOHN KASICH
"An improved system to help high schools encourage more students to earn college credit while completing their high school courses is giving students a jump on their college careers and helping reduce college costs for them and their families. "
